Keep a vase of fresh flowers on your coffee or dining table. And once again, colorful floral accent pillows are a lovely way to introduce spring into your decor. Switch out the pillows on your sofa with colorful floral prints mixed with a graphic patterns. Add a few large & colorful books to your coffee table.

One inexpensive way to instantly spruce up a room is by painting an accent wall! Add in a couple of white lamps and/or accessories for a fresh pop of contrast. And zebra print is always a fun way to create more interest in a space. Whether it's with a couple accent pillows or a rug, you can't go wrong with animal print!

If you can pull it off, a few pops of yellow add energy and cheer to a space. If yellow won't work, try another bright color such as orange, pink or green. It can be with pillows and/or new accessories. A little bit of color can go a very long way!

When you're looking for a neutral color with visual impact, green is a great choice. It's always present outside and can be used for subtle punch inside, especially in living rooms, family rooms, and garden rooms. Mix greens just as you would in your garden, and then add complementary colors. Cool pastels, such as aqua, pink, and even white, work particularly well.

One of the most versatile colors, yellow creates the illusion of light in rooms with few windows. It also looks great in light-filled rooms, where natural light makes it appear paler. Yellow also pairs readily with colors found beside it in nature, such as tangerine, brown, fuchsia, lime green and persimmon. We see it used with success in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms.

In varying degrees of intensity, pink may show up in living rooms, master bedrooms, and girl's rooms. As an accessory, in rugs, pillows, ceramics, and art, a little pink goes a long way toward softening hard edges and bringing in pretty color. For a chic effect, try pink alongside deep-brown or black surfaces. Or mix it with earth tones and pastels, such as white, beige, camel, or honey-gold, for an understated look.

DO start a reference file of inspiring pieces for the room you want to decorate.

DO use jazzy fabrics on pillows and ottomans that can be easily changed out according to season.

DO avoid using floral fabrics on sofas—unless you know you'll never tire of it. Try and keep to solids and small geometrics.

DO consider the lighting effects in the room. Will there be an influence of natural light? Will you need ceiling lighting or will lamplight be enough?

DO keep your vision clear—you can be easily seduced in other directions.

DON'T use a rug that's too small—the furniture will appear to hang off of it, making the room appear smaller.

DO beware of scale and proportion and how all the elements come into play.

DON'T forget to break some rules and most importantly to have fun with it!
